Our Story

Healthy Hay Limited is a small New Zealand owned company focused on creating natural, low sugar nutritional products designed to support horses from the inside out.
Created from firsthand experience with horses prone to sun sensitivity, skin irritation and metabolic challenges, Healthy Hay was built with a simple goal — to provide practical, affordable and easy-to-feed support options for everyday horse owners, helping to prevent issues before they start rather than simply treating them.
We are also passionate about sustainability and reducing waste. By repurposing beneficial citrus by-products from The Limery, we are able to transform what would otherwise become biogenic waste into high quality equine nutritional supplements. This allows us to operate within a circular farming model, where valuable natural resources are reused and repurposed rather than discarded, helping reduce waste while creating a beneficial end product for the equine industry.
All of our products are handmade in small batches here in New Zealand using carefully selected citrus-based ingredients, formulated to support healthy skin, coat condition and overall wellbeing. Every product is carefully prepared, packed and produced with quality, consistency and care at the forefront.
Healthy Hay is also proud to be the creator of Equichews — a world first equine dental stick designed to provide a simple, palatable and low sugar way to support horses daily.
Quality and safety are extremely important to us. Our products are independently lab tested through two New Zealand laboratories to ensure quality assurance, consistency and safety standards are maintained. Testing includes screening for trace metals and product analysis to help ensure our supplements remain safe, reliable and suitable for everyday equine use.
At Healthy Hay, we believe horse owners should have access to straightforward nutritional support without unnecessary fillers, high sugar content or overly complicated feeding routines.
We are committed to continually growing and developing products that support horse health naturally, while providing honest, reliable and customer-focused service to the equine community. We are incredibly passionate about continuing to innovate, educate and provide natural support options for horses across New Zealand.

The name Healthy Hay represents where our journey began - Alongside our supplement range, we have also developed and trialled a specialised hay processing system designed to help bring hay into a safer EMS-friendly zone for horses requiring lower sugar forage options. This system has been tested with promising results, however due to the significant cost involved in scaling and expanding the processing operation, we are currently unable to offer this service to the wider equine community at this stage.
